Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about DiSC, connected manufacturing, the article collection, and the evidence behind it.

What does DiSC-Ecosystem cover?

The website explores digital sustainable supply chains, including manufacturing capabilities, supplier discovery, semantic integration, product information, and sustainability data. The home page presents the ecosystem architecture and component descriptions.

How is this related to Smart Factory Web?

The original home page identifies Smart Factory Web as the reference architecture. A link to the Fraunhofer IOSB project description is provided on the About page for primary context. The editorial articles explore practical questions around those themes.

Does a supplier search result mean a supplier is qualified?

No. A candidate match can support discovery, but technical suitability, quality requirements, capacity, and commercial conditions need their own evidence and approval. The supplier onboarding and Manufacturing as a Service articles explain those distinctions.

Does every product need a Digital Product Passport now?

There is no single universal deadline for every product. Applicability depends on the relevant product rules and the organization’s role. The Digital Product Passport article links to current Commission material and distinguishes indicative planning dates from product-specific obligations.

Are the article examples real factory results?

The operational scenarios and calculations are explicitly illustrative unless a passage identifies a published source for a specific fact. The collection does not claim original factory interviews, site visits, independent assurance, or measured commercial savings.

Who wrote the new articles?

They are attributed to the DiSC Website Editorial Team as a collective website byline. The About page explains the AI-assisted preparation, source review, and limits of that attribution. It does not claim an external expert endorsement.

Where can I find the sources?

Sources are linked near the claims they support and again in the methodology section of each article. Publication and update dates appear with the byline. Open the current primary source before applying a time-sensitive rule or specification.

Can I request production or reserve capacity here?

The informational pages do not offer an online ordering or capacity reservation system. Reading an article does not form a manufacturing contract. Any commercial arrangement needs confirmation and terms from the responsible parties.

How do I report an error?

Open Contact Us and identify the page, the statement or control involved, and any primary evidence for a correction. Avoid confidential or sensitive information in an initial message.

Why are some original media items unavailable?

Some older pages refer to media that was not present in the available archive. The new editorial collection uses its own locally delivered illustrative photos. An unavailable historical image is not replaced with a claim that the new photograph depicts the original project.
